当我置身林间，
尤其是柳树和皂荚树之间，
同样的，还有山毛榉、橡树和松树，
它们散发出喜乐的气息。

When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness.
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.

I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.

Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, “Stay awhile.”
The light flows from their branches.

“and you too have come
into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled

玛丽·奥利弗(Mary Oliver, 1935-2019)，美国女诗人，以书写自然著称。13岁开始写诗，1962年前往伦敦，任职于移动影院有限公司和莎士比亚剧场。后又返回美国，并定居马萨诸塞州普罗温斯敦，长达40年。
Mary Oliver 曾就读于俄亥俄州立大学和瓦萨学院，不过很遗憾，她未从任何一家机构获得学位。但是，这并不妨碍她的诗歌研讨会在各地举办，并在各大学盛行。
Mary Oliver 是诗歌和散文的多产作家，每年或每两年定期出版一本新书。
她的主要诗集有：《夜晚的旅行者》（1978）、《美国原貌》（1983）、《灯光的屋宇》（1990）、《新诗选》（1992）、《白松》（1994）等。这些作品的主要主题仍然是人类与自然世界之间的交汇点，以及在表达这样的融合时人类意识和语言的局限性。
Mary Oliver 的诗歌赢得了多项奖项，其中包括国家图书奖和普利策诗歌奖（1984年）。
2007年，《纽约时报》称赞 Mary Oliver是“本世纪最最畅销的诗人（far and away, this country’s best-selling poet.）”。
2005年丈夫去世后，奥利弗（Oliver）后搬到佛罗里达州的东南海岸生活。
2019年1月17日，因癌症，在佛罗里达州霍比桑德家中辞世，享年83岁。
